Online Safety

At Telford Junior School we are committed to keeping children safe online in school and giving children strategies to help them stay safe online outside of school. We also want to support families to keep children safe at home when using technology.

Our Online Safety Policy

How do we support online safety at Telford Junior School?

When children join the school, we ask parents/carers to share the rules for using the internet safely, set out in our Online Safety Policy, which we ask children and parents/carers to sign.

We appreciate that the language in the policy is complicated and for this reason we encourage you to read the policy through and then explain to your child what is expected when they are using the internet.

In school, teachers will reiterate these messages throughout Computing lessons. While the policy is mainly in relation to children’s use of ICT in school our experience is that children of an increasingly young age are accessing the internet and social media out of school.

Useful Links

Children and young people are online more than ever before: 7-16-year-olds who use the internet say that they spend almost four hours a day online and half of ten-year olds now own their own smartphone. Not only are children spending more time on the web, but the lines between their online and offline lives are becoming increasingly blurred.

Time spent online can be positive. It offers endless opportunities for young people to make friends, have fun and learn new things - they can learn, play and connect with peers. However, it can also pose real-life dangers, from online bullying and threats to sexual abuse and poor mental health.

As a parent or carer, it can be difficult to navigate all the new platforms and games, let alone talk to your child about online safety.  These links might be helpful in supporting you to keep your child safe online:
