Parents/carers who drive or collect children in cars are requested not to park on the yellow zigzag lines or close to the school gates as this restricts visibility and makes it difficult for the children to cross the road in safety.
Similarly, for safety reasons and because of the restricted space, parents/carers are asked not to pull into the staff car parking areas at the beginning or end of the school day.
Please be mindful not to block access to local residents’ driveways.
School Meals
Our school lunches are provided by ABM Catering and are cooked on site. There is a choice of main courses and desserts.
Meals are planned to meet nutritional standards, whilst taking account of the children’s likes and dislikes with a vegetarian option, pasta and jacket potatoes with a choice of fillings (cheese and/or beans or tuna) available daily.
Our menus are available to view Menu Information
Payment should be made at least a week in advance via the ParentPay dinner account and the cost per day is £2.75.
Alternatively, children may bring packed lunches. Parents/carers and children are encouraged to think about how these can be made as healthy as possible, providing for a balanced diet. It is important that your child's name and class are clearly written on their lunchbox.
For useful ideas and advice on packing a healthy lunchbox for your child the Public Health Agency leaflet Are you packing a healthy lunch information leaflet can be read here.
Since a number of children suffer from nut allergies, please do not send nuts, or food items containing nuts, into school as part of your child’s packed lunch, as a break time snack, or on special occasions (e.g. birthdays, cake sales, etc.)
Information is available here on How to apply for Free School Meals and from the school office.
If your child brings a packed lunch, but is eligible for free school meals we would very much appreciate you applying for free school meals even if these are not taken as it helps the school with funding.
ParentPay
Telford Junior School uses the online electronic payment service called ParentPay. Parentpay is an online payment system used by schools to manage payments for school meals, trips, and other expenses. It allows parents/carers to make payments securely and conveniently from their computer or mobile device.
We will provide you with more information about how to set up your account in September when your child starts.
How Does It Work?
Parents/ carers can pay directly from their bank account, or use a debit or credit card to pay money directly onto their child’s dinner money account, or to pay for other items such as school trips. Each student has a secure online account which can be accessed with a unique user ID and password. These will be issued to you separately.
If you have more than one child with a ParentPay account (even if they attend different schools), these accounts can be merged.
You can find more information on their website: www.parentpay.com

Please make sure all clothing is clearly marked with your child’s name it does make it easier to reunite it with your child if it is clearly named.
You can read our Uniform Policy here.
Jewellery and Personal Belongings
Children should not wear jewellery to school as it can be dangerous in certain activities and is likely to be damaged or lost.
Children with pierced ears may wear plain stud earrings, with parents/carers taking responsibility for any accidental injury caused by children wearing earrings. These should be taken out by the child for PE, games and swimming lessons. Parents/carers will need to consider a suitable container for their safe storage. Staff members cannot be expected to take responsibility for their safe-keeping.
Since stud earrings need to be taken out during physical activities, parents/carers are advised that piercing should not take place during term time. The school would strongly advise that earrings are not worn.
Money and Other Valuables
Money and other valuables should not be brought to school, unless required for a specific activity.
Mobile phones and other electronic devices (e.g. smartwatches) should not be brought into school. In cases where parents/carers feel there is an explicit need (e.g. because your child is travelling home independently after school), parents/carers are asked to put a request in writing for your child to bring their phone into school. In such cases, the phone is to be handed in to the school office at the start of the day and collected by the child on leaving the school at the end of the day.
Cameras
Cameras should not be brought into school. A special arrangement is made by class teachers with Year 6 children during the final week in school during the Summer Term, when they can be used under teacher supervision.
Watches & FitBits
Simple analogue or digital watches can be worn by children in school, for the purpose of telling the time.
Smart watches, or ones with a camera, should not be worn in school. The reason for these items not being in school is because there is the tendency for them to be misused, which can lead to safeguarding issues. They also present an unnecessary distraction in class, as well as being expensive items which can be lost.
FitBits can be worn in school, provided they are not proving a distraction to the children’s learning. Please be mindful that if they are lost it can upset the child.
