Our Languages Curriculum
At Telford Junior School, we believe that learning a language broadens horizons, fosters cultural understanding, and builds vital communication skills. Our Languages curriculum ensures pupils develop competence in key strands: Communication, Knowledge of Language, and Cultural Understanding.
Through engaging and interactive lessons, using our fantastic Language Angels Programme, we provide opportunities for children to explore new languages in a meaningful and enjoyable way. From building a strong vocabulary to practising conversational skills, pupils are encouraged to develop confidence and curiosity about the wider world.
Our approach emphasises:
- Reading Fluently: Developing pupils' ability to read and understand a range of vocabulary, phrases and short texts in the target language.
- Writing Imaginatively: Encouraging creativity and accuracy in writing, enabling pupils to compose sentences and short passages with increasing complexity.
- Speaking Confidently: Building oral proficiency, through conversational practice, role-playing and presentations, ensuring children can communicate effectively.
- Understanding the Culture of the Countries in which the Language is Spoken: Exploring customs, traditions, and values to deepen cultural awareness and appreciation.
We aim to instil a love for language learning, equipping pupils with the essential skills that prepare them for the future, in an increasingly interconnected world.
